Critical Stance

Critical stance

What happened is that for the longest time my creative activity has remained split in two. I was making studio art on one side and following the art world, on the other side I was working and earning a living as a fashion designer in the very top brands design studios in NY and later in Milano.

I was critical of the art world for being on a pedestal and not easily available to the people. For being regulated by personal relationships. I was critical of the fashion world for not being able to think independently and for being concerned only with exteriority, appearance, and with the fashion system for being greedy and exploitative. For these reasons I didn’t really feel like I could trust and embrace one or the other.

It was only while turning 50 that I finally decided to advance my own version of creative action.

My ultimate art project was to put the two things together and make a type of art that was no longer perceived as such and make a type of fashion whose esthetic value is tied to the social and cultural projects which generates it, sort of a socially cultured fashion. So, art for me is no longer the product but the system through which the product comes to be. And art for me is a mutualistic system of solidarity with people who are marginalized and a responsible concern for the environment in which we live.

Braghetterosse was a fashion brand so that it could travel easily at public level, hopefully become popular and be sold and shown not in galleries and museums but in boutiques or on-line. It is in the form of products that people can just like, become attached to and make part of their daily life.

Braghetterosse opposed the fashion system traits of being greedy, exploitative and superficial by earning less, by creating productive ties with marginalized people not only in Africa but wherever possible. In each product there is a secret big or small working to create a tie with the ones whose life is less fortunate and ones on whom more attention should be brought for sake of a future sustainable equilibrium and harmony. Braghetterosse made a fashion brand and fashion aesthetic with a social and political project behind it as an art action. Art without self-importance because anyone can participate in it simply through buying an object off a shelf, because one likes it or also because one appreciates it’s meaning.
